At Biscayne Animal Hospital, ultrasound technology is central to daily patient care. We spoke with Dr. Spencer Goldstein, a veterinarian with decades of experience, about how Core Imaging’s ultrasound systems have revolutionized diagnostics in his practice.
Dr. Goldstein started using ultrasound on dogs and cats in 1996, and it has been used for daily diagnostics ever since. Dr. Goldstein explains that any animal over seven or needing a urine assessment receives a quick scan, noting, “We have the probe on these animals all day, every day.”
For him, ultrasound isn’t a nice-to-have; it’s fundamental to modern veterinary medicine. He trains new veterinarians in his clinic to leverage the technology, emphasizing that a well-equipped practice must include ultrasound capabilities.
When his team explored new ultrasound systems, two things about Core Imaging stood out: superior image quality and exceptional support. “The first thing that caught my eye was the clarity of the images,” he recalls. “Compared to other machines, there was no comparison.”
Beyond image quality, he praised the support from the Core Imaging team. From on-site training to expert guidance over the phone, Dr. Goldstein found that accessibility and support were key to maximizing the technology's potential.
Dr. Goldstein shared a recent case that demonstrates the life-saving power of ultrasound. Star, a 14-year-old Yorkie mix, came in with lethargy and anorexia. A quick scan revealed a large abdominal mass and a splenic nodule.
Thanks to the Carnation ultrasound device, Dr. Goldstein’s team could monitor the mass over the weekend, avoiding a costly and unnecessary trip to the emergency hospital. They then ensured Star received timely specialist care. Star has since had successful surgery and is now doing well.
